❤️ Local Heart

The Levittown community has rallied around a beloved local teacher, AJ Tantala, 26. AJ, who teaches at Samuel Everitt School (an elementary school in Bucks IU), was born with a condition that led to kidney failure when he was just two years old.

After years of treatments, he spent the last three years in desperate need of a transplant. To find a donor, he actually put up community sponsored billboards across the Delaware Valley. The billboards featured a photo of himself in his favorite gear along with the Phillies font.

Thankfully he found a match and underwent a successful transplant. To celebrate his recovery, he was surprised with Phillies tickets for the upcoming season. It was a collective "welcome back" from a community that wanted to show their gratitude for a neighbor who has spent years pouring into the lives of local kids.

🤔 Did You Know?

New Hope has some long time ghostly guests. Welcome to Halloween in April, I guess.

Established in 1727, the Logan Inn in New Hope is one of the oldest continuously running inn in the county. While it famously hosted George Washington and his troops, it’s unofficially said to be home to at least four ghosts.

Local legend suggests if you’re staying in Room 6, you might encounter the "Giggling Girl" or the scent of lavender associated with a former long-term resident. Between us, if I hear a ghost giggling, all you’d hear is the ‘whoosh’ of me running past right on out to a new hotel.

🍳 New Tastes Around Town

Honey (Doylestown): Honey is already a staple but their current seasonal menu is fire (as the kids have probably stopped saying). The standout? Black Tea Glazed Spare Ribs served with a side of surprise - spicy ginger ice cream. It’s a bold combo, but definitely worth it if you’re feeling adventurous.

Well Bean Coffee House (Penndel): Every month they surprise and delight their customers with a new coffee flight (and pretty tasty pastries, waffles, etc.). April’s vibe is definitely spring forward - carrot cake, berry blossom, daisy and caramel macchiato.

Mélange on Sycamore (Newtown): A coming (very) soon addition to the restaurant scene that blends Louisiana Creole with Italian. It’s got a jazz lounge vibe that’s unique for the area. If you go you have to try Chef Joe’s Crabmeat Cheesecake (don’t be deterred by the name). Opening night is this Wednesday.

📍 Trending Destinations

Commonplace Reader (Yardley): A charming independent bookstore that carries 4,000+ books nestled in a restored 150 year old house. It also houses the community hub vibe that borough residents love. If you want to feel like a local, grab a lemonade at Pretty Bird (right down the street) and enjoy your new book on the huge wraparound porch.

Galvanized America Inn & Art Gallery (Pipersville): While the farmhouse dates back to 1754, this business has recently leaned into its dual identity. It’s both a boutique stay and a curated art gallery, showcasing regional works and creating a new cultural hub for Upper Bucks. Just a heads up, you’ll want to make an appointment for the gallery.

This means we’re about to see upgraded trails, more inclusive playgrounds and better preservation of our 9,000+ acres of open space. It’s a big win for our weekend hikes and family outings!

A “Power” Move for Local Infrastructure: While utility rates are a hot topic, the silver lining is a $133 million investment project in Lower Makefield. This is the kind of story that reminds you how tight-knit Bucks really is. This week, a local mother named Chi finally took her baby girl, Myla, home after a 285 day stay in the NICU.

Baby Myla was treated by the exact same neonatologist, Dr. Leonard Goldsmith, who treated her mother (Chi) when she was born prematurely 30 years ago. After 9 months of care, Myla was discharged in "really good health" without any medical equipment.

If you’re looking for a free, creative way to de-stress (or get the kids out of the house) the Levittown Library has a hidden gem called the "Pathway to Kindness."

The library regularly hosts Rock Painting sessions where all supplies are provided for free. You can decorate a rock to add to the community path or take one to hide in your own neighborhood.

📰 What You Might Have Missed

Literary Celebration: This past Saturday the Bucks County Short Fiction Contest held its awards ceremony at Bucks County Community College. Marc Elias Keller of Yardley took home first place for his story, "The Sweet Drop," in a standing-room-only event that celebrated the region’s thriving creative community. The story uses sugar as a powerful metaphor for various forms of addiction. He also won the contest in 2024. Other top finishers included Bob McCrillis of Doylestown (Second Place for "Holding Ground") and Susan Lederhouse, also of Yardley (Third Place for "Dear Adrienne"). Congrats, Marc!

Historic Milestone: Washington Crossing Historic Park announced its Fife and Drum Corps (along with re-enactors and a full-sized Durham boat) will lead a major segment of the Philadelphia 250th Celebration Parade. This warrants a strong dose of local pride as our park represents Bucks County on a national stage this July.

Cherry Blossom Peak: The region saw a surge in local tourism and park attendance as the Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival kicked off. While a Philadelphia event, the peak bloom window brought significant foot traffic to Bucks County’s riverfront parks and scenic trails. This marks the unofficial start of the spring outdoor season. Ya know, until it’s freezing again next week anyway.

Girl Power: Julia Horger’s recent performance on the mat has gone viral locally for helping inspire a surge in girls' wrestling participation across the district. In 2020, there were virtually no official girls' teams. By the time of the 2023 vote, there were 111 schools. Today, in 2026, that number has surged past 180 schools.

🤝 Community Investment

$27.5 Million Federal Boost: Details were finalized this weekend for a massive influx of community funding. This includes $4 million to build a state-of-the-art, modern fire station in Bensalem. As well as $2 million to expand and modernize the emergency homeless shelter in Bristol Township. This also includes money for Lower Bucks’ ICU, United Way, DART Mental Health & more.

Infrastructure Renaissance: Planning is moving forward on the Haines Bridge project in Bristol (also part of the above federal funding). The project received $5 million to restore a critical transportation link. This project is expected to significantly reduce daily commute times and improve emergency response speeds for residents in the Edgley area. Anything that makes the morning commute more bearable has our seal of approval.

Small Business Rebound: Residents in Upper Bucks are looking forward to the grand reopening of The Proper Brewing Company in Quakertown this Wednesday. After a long hiatus, this is a welcome win for the local downtown economy.

Revivals Thrift Shop in Perkasie has become known for neighborly support. The shop (opened on an old industrial site) isn’t just about second-hand finds. It was launched specifically to fund local outreach programs and revitalize the neighborhood.

Since its opening, local residents have rallied to stock the shelves with high-quality donations. And all proceeds go directly back into community driven non-profit efforts to help neighbors in financial need.

🤔 Did You Know?

In 1971 (when the Apollo 14 mission headed for the moon) astronaut Stuart Roosa carried a canister of about 500 seeds from various trees. These seeds orbited the moon 34 times (though never actually touched the lunar surface).

After returning to Earth, the seeds were germinated by the Forest Service. One of those “Moon Trees” (a Sycamore) was planted right here in Core Creek Park in 1976 to celebrate the Bicentennial.

Many of these trees were forgotten or lost to history because NASA didn’t keep detailed records of where they all went. It wasn’t until a third-grade teacher started a “Moon Tree Hunt” in the 90s that the Core Creek Sycamore was officially rediscovered and identified as a lunar traveler.

If you’re a space (or history) fan you can still visit it today near the park’s main office.

A Century of an American Icon: Mae Krier’s 100th

You can stop calling yourself old. Because the biggest celebration in the county took place in Levittown on Saturday, March 21. Mae Krier (the legendary “Rosie the Riveter” who worked at Boeing during WWII) celebrated her 100th birthday. She’s become a national symbol of service. The timing was perfect, as the day also marked National Rosie the Riveter Day, highlighting her successful decades-long fight to secure the Congressional Gold Medal for the women of the war effort. Happy birthday, Mae!

The Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope saw a packed house this weekend for the world premiere of “Starstruck.” This new musical comedy (set in a small Idaho mountain town) is one of the centerpieces of the 2026 season. In case you missed it. In late 2025, a touching story went viral involving a local business called Bucks County Windows. A Philadelphia resident reached out to them for a simple window repair she couldn’t afford to replace. Cool History: The Lead Rush of 1860

You’ve heard of the California Gold Rush, but did you know Bucks County had its own Lead Rush? In the mid-19th century, settlers in New Britain Township kept hitting a hard, black substance while digging wells. In 1860, a massive nugget was analyzed and found to contain lead and silver. This sparked a frenzy that led to a rough-and-tumble shanty town called New Galena. The mining boom lasted about 20 years before fizzling out. Today, that entire mining valley is submerged under the waters of Lake Galena in Peace Valley Park. So if you’re ever kayaking there, you’re literally floating over an old mining wild west.

• Zaxby’s (Levittown): Making its highly anticipated Pennsylvania debut, the first Zaxby’s in the state is set to open on March 23, 2026, on Route 13. If you’ve ever traveled South and craved their “Chicken Fingerz,” you no longer have to leave the county.

• Vanilla Café (New Hope): A new “European fusion” spot that recently opened, focusing on Central Asian and European dishes like shakshuka, tom yum soup, and elaborate mousse cakes.
