Heartwarming Moment: âThe Free Windowâ
In case you missed it. In late 2025, a touching story went viral involving a local business called Bucks County Windows. A Philadelphia resident reached out to them for a simple window repair she couldnât afford to replace. Recognizing her situation, the company didnât just fix itâthey donated and installed a brand-new window entirely for free. Itâs a great example of the quiet kindness that often goes unnoticed but makes a massive difference in a neighborâs life.
Cool History: The Lead Rush of 1860
Youâve heard of the California Gold Rush, but did you know Bucks County had its own Lead Rush? In the mid-19th century, settlers in New Britain Township kept hitting a hard, black substance while digging wells. In 1860, a massive nugget was analyzed and found to contain lead and silver. This sparked a frenzy that led to a rough-and-tumble shanty town called New Galena. The mining boom lasted about 20 years before fizzling out. Today, that entire mining valley is submerged under the waters of Lake Galena in Peace Valley Park. So if youâre ever kayaking there, youâre literally floating over an old mining wild west.
New Spots to Check Out
The dining and social scene in Bucks has seen some major additions recently (and has more on the way):
The Snarky Tea House (Doylestown): Just opened in February 2026, this is an Alice in Wonderland-themed cafe and retail space. Itâs perfect for anyone looking for a whimsical, âdown the rabbit holeâ aesthetic with their afternoon tea.
Zaxbyâs (Levittown): Making its highly anticipated Pennsylvania debut, the first Zaxbyâs in the state is set to open on March 23, 2026, on Route 13. If youâve ever traveled South and craved their âChicken Fingerz,â you no longer have to leave the county.
Vanilla CafĂ© (New Hope): A new âEuropean fusionâ spot that recently opened, focusing on Central Asian and European dishes like shakshuka, tom yum soup, and elaborate mousse cakes.
P.J. Whelihanâs (Newtown): Moving into the old Iron Hill Brewery spot, this local favorite is slated to open in May 2026, bringing its famous wings to a major gap in the Bucks County map.
Knox Vineyards: A relatively new family-owned estate winery near Lake Galena that focuses on native grape speciesâgreat for a local tasting flight.
P.S.
Washington Crossing Historic Park is currently rolling out several upgrades for 2026. Including a new ADA-accessible Durham Boat display. Itâs a great time to revisit the park to see the reinstalled 18th-century kitchen garden at the Thompson-Neely House.
